Wondering if anyone has recently cycled the section of the Princes Freeway west of Werribee (aside from ATBers) and if it is open as usual to cyclists.
I did it as training for ATB. I took the Federation Trail to Werribee and then got on the freeway. The freeway was ok, the tough bit are parts of the old highway into Geelong where there's not much shoulder and it is more dangerous. I diverted through Corio. The Portarlington Road is better than the Bellarine Highway for leaving Geelong and if you need to go on the Bellarine you can always cross around Leopold or Drysdale. If you're not precious about your bike you could always take the train to South Geelong and go up the rail trail.
