My last pair of 105 SPD-SL's got me only slightly over 16,0000km - I'd be looking at repacking them every 10k. You need to buy a special tool to disassemble the pedal.
Dura-Ace pedals have a third set of bearings, and people report much longer life - 10+ years (at least for the older alloy body ones).
So could well be worth spending 2 to 3 times as much on them to save the hassle of repacking etc.
