747 Pilot tells me it's totally safe for him to perform a barrel role while doing 400knotts over the pacific. He's done it a bajillion times, & I'm totally confident in his ability, somehow I still don't want him to do it. Ya dig?
Absolutely. Interesting that you bring up 747 pilots. The laws and regulations governing their behaviour are extensive and strict. The laws governing train drivers are similar. The law governing truck drivers are less restrictive. The laws governing car drivers still less. The laws governing pedestrian movement off a road are almost non existent. I don't think I need to explain to you why this is the case.
If due to red light running cyclists were killing or injuring others regularly you would have a stronger argument. If cyclists were regularly being killed themselves then you would have some argument. However there is absolutely minimal harm being done by cyclist running red lights. The harm is certainly less than the harm being done by bunch riding.
I'm not saying it shouldn't be illegal. But worrying about is a distraction from what actually matters.
