Colleen Hartland is organising a mini protest thingo at Shepherd's bridge this Friday. I've copied and pasted the email I received below...
Spring is here; days are longer and warmer. More people in the West are jumping on their bikes.
However, a dangerous obstacle lies on the main bike route to the city - Shepherd Bridge. These photo's hint at the difficulties that more than 1,000 cyclists face trying to cross this bridge every day. Cyclists rub shoulders with trucks travelling at speed while swerving to dodge light poles, potholes, metal grates and oncoming riders.
With murmurs that the Bridge is being looked at by the government, now is the time to send a message that Shepherd Bridge must be fixed and made safe.
Pressure from cyclists like you is having an impact - we're hearing good signs, let's keep it up.
Other main cycle routes to the city such as St Kilda Rd, Albert St and Swanston St, have infrastructure that enhances safety and visibility, such as wide and coloured bike lanes, Copenhagen Lanes and vibralines. Shepherd Bridge is far from this standard. Bike riders in the West deserve to be safe too!Join me at Shepherd Bridge this Friday morning 8:30-9:15am to find out more, sign and send a postcard to Mr Baillieu, share your thoughts, and join us in a photo.
I hope you can be there!
If you can't make it, but would like to sign and send a 'Fix Shepherd Bridge' postcard, send me an email and post you some. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
