Today turned into one of my best rides ever!
I rang Dad at 6:45am to confirm our meeting at Station Pier for 8:05am, we agreed that the weather was good enough to ride, so we went our separate ways and met at Station Pier. Dad arrived at 8:04 and I arrived at 8:07. We rode off to Riva ??? in Southbank and had coffee and watched the world go bye.
After coffee we headed back to Station Pier with a nice gentle Northerly. At Station Pier we had trouble seeing Williamstown as it was shrouded in rain cloud. I mention to Dad as we headed along the Bay Trail bike towards Black Rock, "wouldn't it be great if the rain squall hit us"
but as the wind was from the North, I thought it would miss us. Bad Assumption
, by St Kilda Marina, the rain squall had hit us, it was p!ssing down, as we rounded Point Ormond you couldn't see the toilet block about 200 meters away, we were right in the middle of it and it was beautiful.
By now, we were both 'wet as shags' but pleasantly warm. So we kept riding, passing the occassional cyclist sheltering at Elwood LSC and Brighton Baths.
As the weather was a tad wet, I rode with Dad to his house, before continuing homewards by myself. As I waited to cross Warrigal/Nepean Hwy intersection and further up at the Thrift park lights, another 'storm cell' had descended upon me. Picture this
: It is bucketing down, the Nepean Hwy is awash, I am standing at the pedrestrian lights waiting to cross, with rows of cars stopped waiting for the lights to change, watching this old fart (me) waiting for the green man, absolutely looking like a drowned rat, but I was happy as.
Thank God, or whatever diety, that we are all different.
I am home, showered, cycling clothes being washed, feeling on top of the world, after a magnificent morning out riding.Life can't get any better.
