There is a magpie that likes to have a go on Point Nepean Rd (I think that's what its called. To me, its Beach Road from Station Pier to Portsea!) Macrae, near the BiLo supermarket. It has had a shot at me the last two Sundays. Luckily, it isn't particularly aggressive and if you maintain eye contact, it chickens out.
Off topic, but in the same neck of the woods, on my ride down that way on Sunday, I came across a cyclist who had been delibrately side swiped by a car (the cyclist managed to stay upright), then bashed by the motorist (who was affected by some substance) after the cyclist made certain gestures etc (as you would). And in a parting act, the kind motorist kicked the cyclists rear wheel, causing a very significant buckle (the cyclist was telling me that it was his first ride on a time trial bike that he had been building up over the last three months. Very nice bike). Luckily, a few people stopped to help the cyclist and they were able to get the rego number of the car. The damage to the cyclist - buckled wheel, broken presciption sunnies, couple of cuts above the left eye, suspected broken orbital bone.
Its hard enough being a cyclist, trying to keep on motorists nice sides. But when there are guys like that around, it makes it just that little bit harder. Sometimes I wonder why I bother cycling at all, with all the odds stacked against us.
