And does anyone living out this way want to join me riding with me on Thurs & Fri mornings for a 6.30am start to work?
Hey Ange... it's obvious most of the people on the forum are from the Eastern suburbs and as yet again, the West is ignored and "irrelevant" to the rest of Melbourne.
I actually ride to work from Greengully Road all the way down Sunshine Avenue (there is bike bike lane on this road) all the way to the Western Ring Road. From there, and you won't believe me when I tell you this, but I actually continue on down McIntyre Road all the way to Ballarat Road. From there I ride all the way along Ballarat Road (yep.... I am suicidal !!) to Clive Peeters in Braybrook. From there I ride down that side road all the way to Sunshine Road just past Tottenham Station and ride all the way into Footscray until I get to the Footscray bike trail from the Maribyrnong River. From there it's into Docklands and into the CBD.
In your case I would turn left at that road where Festival Hall is (opposite Docklands) and go into Queen Victoria market and then take one of the city bike trails into Fitzroy and then Collingwood.
For me, into the CBD it took me no less than 65 to 70 minutes door to door (I live in Keilor Downs). For you I'd allow 1.5 to 1.75 hours.
Do you want to join my campaign (or anyone reading this?). I am preparing letters and petitions to submit to Vicroads, VLine and councils for a rail trail along the Sydneham Railway line all the way into West Footscray. This would be fantastic as it would provide a totally safe bicycle lane all the way almost into Footscray where you can safely connect into the Maribyrnong River bike track and then into Docklands.
Call me on 0410 382 857 to discuss more mate.
