Well folks, I was just thinking, why do I volunteer? And even though I don't volunteer on the rides (due to riding), I thought I could possibly write something here. I have been a Volunteer Emergency Service member for 5 years now, and I often come to wonder why I do it.
I definately don't do it for the glory and recognition of helping someone. And I don't do it because there is someone standing there saying you must do this. I do it, because I can make a difference in someones life in their time of need.
Now I know that attending emergency situations is totally different to bike riding events. But the whole reason people do things such as volunteering on the rides is to help us, the riders, have a great time. I know how hard it is to be a volunteer, and therefore I guess I appreciate the volunteers more.
So to all of you who give up your time so that I can go out and enjoy myself on these rides, I am truely greatful. Thankyou.
