RE "I get to have 9 days to have fun. A chance to see the country, visit country towns, meet interesting people, sleep under the stars & have a break from the rat-race.".
EnZed, you summed it up exactly. I have done the NSW Big Ride in 2004 (Information) and 2005 (Activities). Little did I know that I would get hooked. Not doing the next NSW because I don't get much time off work, so I have chosen the WA for 2006, then staying on in WA until Easter, probably head up to Ningaloo Reef.
Spending most of my life in the thick of the rat-race (Martin Place, Sydney), running on stress and adrenaline in the corporate world (me and my colleagues), it's good to get away and do something different, helping others. It helps you remember how nice people can really be when out of a competitive environment. Especially on the tougher days (like Bulahdelah 2004 !!).
Since I've been volunteering I have actually bought a bike and done a little riding to, not up to riding one of these rides though.
