I've currently got 34-30-26-23-20-17-15-13-11 on the rear (used to have 32-11), and I tend to use the middle 39T chain ring with the middle rear sprockets* when climbing any hills between about 4 and 6% (e.g. several of the Dandenongs roads
). I was just thinking that a 38T would be a little bit more ideal, but if there are no 38Ts for triples, I guess my upgrade/change wouldn't be that simple.
* e.g. 39/17 is common for the 4 to 6% hills, and 39/20 or 39/23 for the slightly steeper hills.
Sorry, forgot to mention: while cleaning my bike yesterday, I noticed daylight between the chain and the middle front chain ring, so it's time for a chain replacement, and normally I'd replace the rear cluster at the same time. So I thought while doing that, I'd consider my options for front chain rings also. I'm always searching for the "perfect gear ratios"
