Sure the road ones don't have as good a "feel" as the MTB version, but it also doesn't matter imho cos I'm not crashing down steep singletrack on that bike. They're perfectly adequate for their application.
For sure. I don't doubt they're adequate. They're on my imaginary spec list for my imaginary custom titanium road/cross bike that I'm imagining getting made some time.
But... the centrepulls on my commuter are also adequate for their application. That's why I haven't coughed up the money for another set of V brakes and Tektro levers. But the V brakes on my tourer are better.
I like things that are better.
If there are V-brake brifters available when I imagine building this imaginary bike, I'll use them with MTB-spec Avid disc brake calipers. More likely, I'll end up using hydraulic brifters with hydraulic disc brake calipers
