Current is 85mm (measuring the cable outer thing); is that the right measurement? In which case I guess I would try the 75mm, which doesn't seem to be available at the usual places. Is there a better alternative? No confidence it will help, but not sure what else to try.
I'm very curious to see how the shorter straddle link cable will go. I started to read up on it but the cantilever adjustment pages tended to end up in trigonometry equations very quickly.
Sheldon Brown has a listing of common link wire lengths but the Avid links seem to use different sizes.
One item that made a lot of difference to my canti braking power was to use the Kool Stop Dual Compound MTB brake pads. I was trying to cure bad brake squeal and they felt a lot more solid (and quieter). Downside is they wear out very quickly. (I trashed a brand new pair in one afternoon descending Donna Buang on one of the snow rides. )
