@ Bleve - you should probably also talk to Grant Boydell about Carnegie track racing stuff, cos he's the one that organises that.
(His contact details can be found on the CSV website on the Season Finale @ DISC this weekend page.)
We've had two race meets in March so far. I just helped/watched at the first one, because I was recovering from a cold and saving my energy for the sprint series (that never happened). From memory, there were a couple of E graders, decent D and C grade fields and a combined A / B grade field.
It began lightly drizzling during the afternoon, but racing was able to continue. The timing of the massive downpour was almost perfect - after racing had finished
... but not before everything was in the shed, and everyone was in their cars driving home again!!
Last Saturday, I was expecting to have to go down to Carrum in the morning (to meet Karaoke machine delivery) before racing ... but I was granted a "leave pass" from any organising until after I'd raced. (That didn't stop me being on the phone most of the morning, reorganising the timing when everyone else's plans went out the window!) My plan was to take my track and road bikes, so I could go for a ride from Carrum the next morning - but that went out the window when my track & road bike frames were too small for the strap-on bike rack
Luckily a quick reorganise of the car meant I could fit my track bike + everything else I needed to take.
There were only 3 grades at racing - C, D and E ... with 3 usual B-graders not wearing numbers and racing with the C-graders.
First up was a 15-lap scratch race
for C (and B) grade - with the usual attacks from the usual junior culprits, and the usual slow catch-up from me ... but as soon as I'd finally got back on there was another attack, so I was out the back again
Note to self: do *not* use big gears (86.4) outdoors when racing with the juniors (the headwind tired my legs out).
Next up was a secret distance scratch race
. I attacked the field from the start, and spent the first few laps off the front before the chase was formed and I was caught. It was fun TT'ing off the front instead of the back though.
The third race for C grade was my least favourite - the elimination
. No prizes guessing who was first eliminated - again!! I really need to get better at eliminations, so I'm not sprinting to avoid getting eliminated at the first elimination!!
Finally it was time for the all-in 3-lap handicap
. I was off 110 m, with some of the little juniors off 300+ m I think. There was lots of passing going on, so I have no idea where I finished - but a long way off the leaders.
Racing finished soon after 3 pm, just as I expected ... so I was only 1 1/2 hours "late" to my friend's hen's afternoon/night. The swim at Carrum beach was very pleasant
This Saturday's racing is at DISC - Juniors in the morning and Seniors in the afternoon. Apparently there are good entries for the Seniors, but not so good for the Juniors.
I got absolutely smashed at the DISC racing last year, but I won't even be there as a spectator / helper this year ... I've got a much more important job => bridesmaid at my friend's wedding
