OK - gotta make my 1500th post an ATTA related posting
We had a bit of a BV forum convoy going to the ATTA TT yesterday. Ian (gozzo) picked me up around 6:30 am, and after putting my bike in the trailer ... it was off to Dave and Kathy's place (so Ian could return Dave's TCR to him.)
Then they went and picked up Kenneth (with us following behind), and then we travelled together to Lancefield ... after a couple of mobile calls established which route when Ian and I lost Dave + Kathy on the way to Kenneth's place!
After registrations were complete, Dave went up to the start line to check out start times - 9:31, 9:32 and 9:33. I was warming up on Reece's trainer (which I'm borrowing) ... and somehow managed to miss my start!
I got to the start line and saw Dave going off. Turned out that I wasn't there, so Dave took my spot. Thanks Dave.
This meant that I didn't get to reset my odometer before I started - just pressed the "lap" button as I started. At least that meant I didn't cool down though. (BUT I didn't have time to take off my arm warmers
Ian (gozzo) started only 30 seconds after me ... and it wasn't very long before he'd passed me and he was out of sight! He was certainly flying.
Last time (July), I went out a bit too hard, so struggled in the hills from Dons Road turnoff to Rochford - so this time I made sure that my HR was around the 170 mark. There was a slight headwind up to Dons Road ... which meant that after the left turn at Newham (Newham General Store corner) there was a lovely tailwind.
I was hurtling along the flat sections ... when thorle passed me. "Here we go again", I thought. So at the next hill, it was time for "Cat and mouse 2" - I passed him.
Then he passed me (on the downhill), only for me to pass him (Cat and mouse 4) on the false flat before the lovely downhill ...
Location: soon after "Stealth at the side of the road, fixing other people's flats" on the MAD Ride.
I absolutely bombed down the descent - cos I didn't want thorle to pass me on the downhill ... like he did to Dave in July
When I got to the McMasters Lane turn, I slowed down a bit and successfully went around the corner
In July I went into it a bit fast and stuffed up slightly. No stuffing up this time thoguh
Then it was time to ramp it up for the finish - still going quite hard as I went through the finish
* Press lap button * 1 hr 5 min 2 sec flashes up on my Polar HRM screen
When I got back to the finish line, Paul confirmed my time.
So 1 min 37 sec off my April Lancefield 30 km time.
(Or 3 min 57 sec off my July Lancefield time that was wind affected.)
After a quick chat, it was onto Reece's trainer (that Kathy and Kenneth had put in the car to transport it to the finish line for me) - so I could roll the legs over and cool down while the others finished.
I was particularly impressed with the "throw" at the line that Andrew's friend (wearing a Monash jersey) did. That's a skill that I don't have yet!
Also well done to gplama - winning the Northern combine 30 km ITT at Lancefield on Saturday, and then coming equal 3rd in the 60 km ITT for ATTA at Lancefield on Sunday. You must be pretty sick of that course right now!!
Looking at his lap 1 vs lap 2 results, the lama was certainly "Mr Consistency" as well
By how much did other people break their PB by? (July vs October - i.e. extremely windy vs slightly windy)??
