We have a working system. It's simple. Two copper pressure strips ex DISC that we put down on race day and remove and store (carefully!) afterwards, ~80m of speaker wire, a timer box built by my friend John Lewis, and it works like a charm. Horror stories about overly complex systems notwithstanding, this is simple and works perfectly.
