Last year's GVBR2004 was fantastic overall, but unfortunately the timing of the event is right in the middle of hay-fever season!
Some of the towns we visited last year were mainly dairy producing farms and communities, and the amount of flies and pollen in the air, made my eyes run and nose run like the Yarra in winter!
I has to quickly formulate a technique to overcome this problem.
Bring with you a large bandana and a small bottle of eucalyptus or lavender essential oil. As I was riding past the farms and flies, I would either place the bandana over my nose and mouth with a few drops of the essential oil. It really relieved the pain for me quite a lot. At one point, I simply wore the bandana like a cowboy's face mask, and I had no problems since.
When we got down to sea level, I had no hayfever reactions at all, but as soon as we started going past Torquay and into the Bellarine Peninsula, the sneezing started up again! Out came the bandana/handkerchief and I was ok to go!
Maybe other people have other ideas?
