General talk, queries & comments about the Great Victorian Bike Ride.
"The Route" section of the website mentions that there are going to be sections of gravel road on day 1 (8km) and day 6 (described as short). Does anybody have any idea how 'bad' these sections of road are going to be. Should they affect my tyre selection (I had been intending to use 1 inch slicks on a mountain bike)

Well spotted kiwi girl. What about road bikes? Will this be a problem for skinny tyres?

We are looking to have the dirt section graded and rolled by the council which will make the surface suitable for most bikes even some road bikes we hope.
At this point in time 7 Sept we have proposed that the majority of riders will travel the dirt section which is shorter and a longer (70km+) fully sealed option be provided for the road bikes.
Discussions are continuing with Police and Council regarding this so keep tuned in the web site and forum for news.
I am confident that the dirt on day 6 will not be encountered.
