I don't know whether I'll get to the bottom of this problem I had with the Garmin elevation profile for Lavers Hill, so I'll tell you what I did do, perhaps it will help other Garmin Edge 705 users down the track...
1. Connected Garmin to my PC and backed up all the contents of the 2 network drives that get automatically connected when the unit is plugged in.
2. Used the Garmin user interface to delete its entire trip history.
3. Went on several rides after this, and noted that the History trace now shows these rides. Before I had about 5 months worth of history saved, but after that they stopped, even though the Garmin disk space was (apparently
) far from full. I've seen posts on the Garmin forum about this, and nobody seems to have a definitive answer.
4. After today's ride, I successfully uploaded the trip history to http://connect.garmin.com/activity
, and the following was the result:
Looks a bit more reasonable than my odd-looking Lavers Hill graph, eh?
I also noticed there was no Lap.dat file under the Garmin History\Laps\<number> directory any more, in fact this directory wasn't even readable in Explorer, so I decided to leave well enough alone. I did save the .tcx file from the History directory, however, since this was the one uploaded to the Garmin site, and I wanted to have a spare copy of it. I just wish I'd thought of doing this before
The peak in the graph was the Dandenong Observatory, by the way, where I turned around and traced the exact same route home, hence the (approximate) symmetricality of the graph.
Roshea, thanks for the tip on websites and apps to use, by the way - much appreciated
. The Garmin Connect website is actually MotionBased for Garmin users, i.e. the MotionBased website directs you to the Garmin one now. I also tried SportTracks.
