BYK-FM is pleased to announce the winner of the text back quiz (slow drum roll please)
And the winner is ...... Jigger!
Jigger was the first to correctly answer the question - "In what year was the border between Western Australia and South Australia established?" He knew that the year was 1494.
Well done Jigger and many thanks for all the other entrants - we now know the SMS text-back to 0410 456 082 actually does work and we'll be able to deploy it for both the competitions and voting for JOKE-OF-THE-DAY during the ride.
Jigger will receive the prize - that $100 key ring - at the BYK-FM cocktail party at 5.00 pm on Friday 27 November at Portland.
Everyone welcome to hear Jigger's acceptance speech - and bring along the Best Joke You've Ever Heard and we'll record you (we actually need lots so that we can broadcast three outstanding jokes every day).

Jigger is correct and 1494 is correct
What happened was that Portugal and Spain were about to go to war over the spoils that Christopher Columbus had discovered in 1492, and the Pope was called in as referee.
He ruled that all of the undiscovered world was to shared equally between the two, starting with a line drawn down the middle of South America.
So that's why they speak Portuguese in Brazil (which is roughly the eastern half of South America) and Spanish elsewhere in Latin America.
Now when you extend that dividing line up and over the North Pole and down the other side, that became the border between WA and SA.
When Captain Phillip arrived in Botany Bay, his papers instructed him to colonise "Spanish Australia" and ditto when Captain Stirling arrived in the Swan River in 1829 his papers told him to coloninse "Portuguse Australia"
Which is why Portugese East Timor and Portugese Macau are to the west of this line, and The Phillipines (where they speak a form of Spanish) is to the right.
New Quiz question
Given your interest in these matters, you'll know that the Commonwealth of Australia was created as the umbrella colony of the states on 1 January 1901 and that the British legislation was entitled "The Creation of the Colony of Australia". Which begs the question - on what date did Australia gain its Independence from the UK? (here's a clue - it was in the twenties)
