On suspension forks for commuting/road, my 2cents
I commuted on paved paths & roads daily for 4 years on a slick shod MTB running nice “well specc’ed” fork suspension forks – Rockshox SID Team 2007.
They were such a plus that even reverting to carbon blade rigid front forks afterwards was a definite negative. With the biggest negatives being increased harshness resulting in sore palms over long distances & a ‘dead’ as well as skittery feel when cornering heavily on solid but bumpy surfaces ( like concrete with gaps/cracks in it etc).
Good suspension forks, set up well for the conditions - I ran slightly higher psi in both chambers (preload/rebound) & mixed heavier oil (50% 2.5wt/5wt), makes everything better than rigid forks out on the road.
...and I never used the lock-out, removing the remote after the first year.

Just a bike & a place to ride.
