Since the arrival of Squeaza+1 just over a year ago, we've been dithering on the possibilities for transporting him and stuff around by two wheels. We're a one-car family and want to remain that way, but with us both working here there and everywhere we're often in a situation with one of us at home with baby and relying and walking and public transport to get everywhere, which is difficult on weekends when the buses run so infrequently.
We've really wanted a cargobike, and have tried a few and are still tossing up a few options, but we also wanted to get a trailer for more fun weekend cycling.
After a week of beautiful weather when MrSqueaza was away and I was looking longingly at the sun and our bikes and wanting to ride, we pushed the matter and started looking more seriously at trailers and a bike to tow a trailer with.
We liked the idea of disk brakes, and with both of us having similar reach and not dissimilar sized road frames, we wanted to buy a bike that would fit us both. Cyclocross bikes appealed, and we test-rode a forum member's new Boardman one, and it ticked all the boxes. I even got as far as having one sitting in the 'shopping basket' at Wiggle, but yesterday we popped into BSC to look at and order a trailer, and they had one good-sized Kona Dew Drop, reduced to $900, but when I asked about similar bikes they might have, he said he could drop the price even further because they really needed to shift them (2010 stock).
A few seat adjustments and test-rides (including cobbled laneways!!) and we are now the proud new owners of a Chariot Cougar 2 trailer, and the Kona which while heavy was much fun to ride, has good mtb gearing for steep bike paths with a trailer on the back, and was a great price at $750!
No pics yet
we had to order the trailer in so hoping it'll be here in the next week
I can't wait to get it - it has been very hard not being able to ride much at all in the last year, and being able to get a nice day and go for a spin around the block or down the road to the park and around a bit will be lovely
Still a cyclist, albeit one who never rides any more....
