You'd be better off (at least financially) buying a bike with gears than adding them to this bike. It has a belt drive so derailleur gears aren't an option, so you're up for a new back wheel as well as shifter and associated parts.
Its not one of the fancy pants Treks with Belt. Just a standard chain.
