In short, it really comes down to the person at the time. It's not the shop overall that is "bad", it's the individual and their attitude towards certain people. I've been to reputable shops - TFM, PortMelbCycles, Bicycle Superstore, etc and they all have given me a mixed bag of good and crap service. Different people each time and sometimes the same person with a different attitude (got out of the wrong side of the bed for example).
Anyway, there is this young guy, blonde hair looks a bit like Justin Beiver and he was really exceptional. I went in there with the intention of spending $5 on a couple of crank bolts and ended up spending $80+ on other things I "might" need. He was not a flash in the pan sales man, he simply made me feel valued and good being there in the store. I simply remembered lots of other things I might need for a single speed project I am building with my son, and both of us were impressed with the level of time, and advice he gave us on how to put one together. I went there on Sunday so if you want GREAT service go to him at GoldCross in Hoppers on a Sunday. You won't be disappointed. As for the other clowns there, they are d*(&*heads!

Nice on the dirt too. Or towing a child. Or both.
