Good turn out. About 10-12 people rocked up - but for some reason, my workmates were wanting to hang around for some late starters...but I said a 7:30am start...we didn't wait.
Met Bodie and Brycer the two BV'ers who fronted, Steve from Work, Andrew another mate and we took off. 7:30...almost on the dot.
Nice easy pace, we picked up a couple of Klingons somehow but they scored a puncture about 1km in and we left them to it - no-one knew who they were so "rolling...".
Next flat was Andrew, but B & B were on tight timelines so they rolled on while 3 of us put in a team effort on the flat and were rolling again inside 5 minutes. Couldn't catch the other two though. But we found Ross wandering aimlessly down Beach Road (we'd planned to hook up with him at Mordi...but he was late), so the flat tyre was all for good timing in the end.
Steve peeled off at Mt Eliza. Ross, Andrew and Myself continued along Nepean to Mt Martha (nearly), turning across the top of the hill and past the Mt Martha Park Scout Camp and managed to achieve 70kmh in the 60 zone heading down the hill in the wet and then creeping gingerly around the 30kmh hairpin at the bottom of the hill (thank god for new brake pads!!!).
Ross ran out of fuel at this point so we towed him back to Franganastan after doing the Esplanade Loop back thru to Nepean. Fueled up at the BP with some Mother and Snickers Bars (that servo would do really well to add a cafe on to it to cater for cyclists!!!). Ross never really recovered his energy again so hung on until bidding farewell at Edithvale for his homeward slog to Kilsyth!!! (must ring to make sure he made it ok).
Andy and I upped the pace to about 37kmh for the remaining ride back into Hampton and some coffee and muffins as San Sebastian...yum!
Good day out
