Was originally planning to head to Woodend then go the back way up the mountain, instead I decided to take the turnoff to Mount Macedon. Pulled up about 200 metres up the road, with the mountain looming ahead in the distance.
Feeling good this morning, so got my gear out and rugged up for the cold temperature. Had a pair of polypro glove liners under my gloves and they worked a treat. Started riding, going to see what the mountain held for me before I decided how many times I'd climb it.
15 minutes in, I felt pretty burnt already. It was a small incline and it shouldnt have affected me that bad. I was worried. I pushed through it, and made my first ascent from the Melbourne side of the mountain. Past the Mount macedon shops, past some roadworks and I was feeling good. Took the turn off to head up to the memorial summit. Was feeling it at that time, kept 160bpm on the HRM. Wanted to keep some in the tank for later...
The downhill section was crazy, 55+ all the way back down. Uphill took around 30 minutes, downhill took less than 4. Up the same side again for a second time, got to the top and felt a little out of breath so stopped for some water. Back down to memorial drive and decided to take a left at the turnoff and head to Woodend. That downhill was fantastic too, passed a couple of riders heading up the hill. I turned around at Woodend and headed up again, so all up climbed it 3 times. Very fun, feeling good now.
anyone who wants to head up there one weekend day let me know!
Ride time approx 3 hours 45 minutes.
