Not planned for me to go along. But glad to stretch the legs. Rode on the front for much of the ride down with mhayli. Then some guys surged and overtook us around Ricketts only to have heart failure about 200m later, then reduce speed by around 5kph?? So after a quick 'let's go' to mhayli we booted along around 50kph from the Mentone hotel to Mordy. That was fun.
It was the only thing to do to get clear of the carnage that was going on around us at that point.
Don’t really understand the on the gas to really off the has thing, but it seemed to be a bit of a theme for many Beach Road riders on the day. FWIW if you want a good hit out try rolling turns at the front and working WITH the riders around you. We can all muster enough gas to go around someone briefly, but try to be constant in your riding and you’ll get much more benefit. If you want to go hard, pace yourself and do it all the way from Mordy to Port Melbourne as a group. It's much better. IMHO. (End of rant).
We all stopped at Mordy for a little break, some minor mechanical work for me and then headed back to St.Kilda. Very nice to get out for a few km’s before that rain came through in the afternoon.
Thanks to all it was a good day.
PS Looks as though Stealth is going to be a Roubaix convert.
