I think I can help you, Penny, at least with last year's info.
It rained and was very cold last year on the 110km route, at one stage there were hail stones beating down.
The vollies are quite good - they tended to be just in the right spots, where you thought that you might be losing your bearings.
You spend a lot of time in the last 30kms criss crossing the plains outside Ballarat - the climbs, if you like, are in the earlier part of the ride. Hills not as big as in the MAD ride though.
There is a bailout point, just after your afternoon stop, where you can go back with the 75km riders, if you think the 110 will be a problem. A lot of people did this last year, because of the weather. Left the last 35kms or so as a very solitary ride, I ended up watching the guy in front of me several kilometers away though
