It was a massive group of 36 riders enjoying 12 degrees and sunny conditions. I had secured a sensible mid-pack position up Whitehorse Rd. Then the pack split at the service road just before Mitcham, and suddenly I was at the back. Sure enough, at Springy2 an elite group of 3 plus me got separated off the back, but agreed we could chase the peloton down. Passed Ness fiddlesticking, and he waved us on. Rolling turns commenced, but between red lights, hills, and a mongrel bus who was braking and accelerating unpredictably, I actually never pulled a turn on the front. We had the peloton in tantalising sight climbing Westfield, but once again a red light sought to crush our spirits. Then I enjoyed a draft on a tradie at the top of Elgar to get me joined back on, only to screech to a halt on a red at the bottom of Elgar. Sometimes it just doesn’t flow. Made it back for a lovely coffee. Still the 2nd best way to start to the day.
Do not recall seeing you, as I road with Wheelpower, and Squeezasis, lost Squeezasis about Church Street and had Andrewb pass us after we passed KOM with another and then TmT and many others along Belmore to Balwyn.
Certainly 36 plus at least 3 should be the number at today's MRR.
Most enjoyable and "recovery" paced ride.
