Weather - couldn't have been better.
Traffic behaviour - only saw one pratt make a violent left turn across the bows of one rider; did see quite a number of riders lose patience with the pack and dash up the wrong side of the rode or push their way forward in the traffic jams at the lights Otherwise pretty good.
Marshalling - very well done.
Rest stops - well located and adequate for the crowd.
Suggestions for next time -
- Would be nice if we could arrange police control of the intersections along Dorcas St. There was a lot of congestion here because of the light cycles and there really wasn't very much cross traffic to necessitate red lights. Tough luck under normal circumstances but, given the traffic density today, special consideration would be justified I think.
- Need to look for alternatives to Racecourse Rd. With the numbers of riders, that chicane just at the bottom of the dip before the railway bridge was pretty scary - especially for some of the newer and younger riders.
Things that worked particularly well -
- Dedicated lanes were justified by the volume of cycle traffic and with reference to the mixed experience levels. There were some very young riders doing very well and the segregation allowed them space to cope with a big challenge.
- Marshalling and traffic direction mostly. One of the right turn reserved lanes was a tad confusing because it wasn't clear whether the lane had been closed or reserved for bike but otherwise, very good.
