Riding Every Day wrote:I was on the point of entering my wife & I for this ride a few weeks back. We've never ridden in that area, and I've heard lots about it etc. Pretty much in the act of entering I just figured "nah, I'm not paying $300 just to ride 120klm".
I'm not usually too fussed about ride entry fees, and we're already doing the AGF Gran Fondo in Lorne on the following weekend, but I reckon there'll come a time soon when the organisers of events like these will price themselves out of the reach / interest of many riders. We'll ride Kinglake some other time.
I can relate to that. I rode around the Bay twice last year: once on a Sunday in February (with damhooligan along as tour guide for the Point Cook --> Queenscliff bit) then again in October for the big organised event. I definitely enjoyed the February ride more, and of course it was cheaper.
Do try Kinglake sometime, by the way: I thoroughly enjoyed my single (so far) Kinglake ride last year. I rode up through Whittlesea then along Humevale Rd, which is a very gradual climb up to Kinglake. Some day I mean to ride up from Kangaroo Ground (on my to do list).
