Did anybody else see the big guy (like about 120-130kg) wearing the Fat Bastard jersey, and riding a Trek Madone in kermit-the-frog-green and yellow? Wearing lime green, knee-length compression socks? With a set of Zipp 404 wheels, and a Powertap hub on the bike?
We were near him at the start, and then we passed him on the Skene's Creek climb......he was doing it tough going uphill. All I could hear was the spokes on those Zipp wheels pinging.....
Or the bloke riding an old Shogun racer.....with a very pro-looking time trial helmet on?
Great ride anyway. We stayed down at Wye River, so we rode the 18klm up to Lorne on the Sunday morning, did the ride loop, then rode home to Wye River that afternoon. 158klm in total. The toughest part of the ride? The short climb from the GOR back up to our accommodation......which is only about 800 metres long, but I reckon it tops out at about 15% grade. At the end of a long day in the saddle it nearly killed me. The wife chose not to attempt the climb and asked me to pick her up in the car from the foot of the hill.
