That was some of the best fun in ages. Thank you everyone!
icarus_m - glad I ran in to you - twice! - so that you could see that I put the Tracktor to good use!
He was perfect for the ride, and the CX tires made it so much easier on the stones!
In fact, the Tracktor was maybe a little tooooo good today.... I started out from home this morning with the plan to meet fattima at his place before setting off together to Hawthorn. There was a wicked tailwind, and combined with the downhill on High St and the sunshine... by Rucker's Hill, I realised I was missing something.... um, that would be fattima...
I stopped at a cafe for a piccolo, rang, and waited for him there.
Some great bikes today (barefoot - loved the bike AND the outfit, not to mention some of your hotdogging during the ride; Heather - of course!) and some hilarious costumes.
blybo - you gear-show-er-off-er! Spinning up the hills while we were out of the saddle...
Riding the SS all day, I discovered that I had far less patience up hills when stuck behind those with gears!
Didn't make all the hills with the gearing and cobbles (out of saddle and the back tire spinning like mad on one section - those gaps between cobbles... Ian, I think you were right - I could
hear the echoes of last year's riders lost down them...), but one section I decided to carry the bike and found myself running up alongside a woman riding a Blue Bike - she turned to see me, and we both just laughed.
baudman - I didn't mind the accidental detour on the aquaduct... was fun despite the headwind - but when I pulled up at the end and turned around to try to find our crew, the cyclists behind all just looked at me and one guy said: 'We were following you!' Um - that's unfortunate!
richard_s and wordnerd - support crew extraordinaire! And kudos to the Zoo for letting us use the loos! (although I was terribly tempted to just hang around there when they announced that it was time to feed the lions...) osmund, so good to see you at the 'drome.
Only about 65km for the day, but hundreds of kms worth of fun -
