Turned out to be a shorter ride than planned, and we would have done well to take a couple of very big chainsaws with us , but we managed a pleasant afternoon in the forest, miles from anybody who had any interest in the f**tb*ll.
The ride shortening was partly because I had to detour via Marybyrnong on the way to Blackwood, to pick up a new oven after ours went "bang" on Friday night. It rested in the back of the wagon while we rode. I realised on the way back out the Western that my bike (in the back seat) was worth quite a bit more than the oven (over the back) - and the oven is worth quite a bit more than the car
. Priorities firmly in place.
Hopefully next year we'll only have one grand final to avoid.
although we'd still be out there for another 3 weeks if we were going to make a serious attempt to clear the treefalls - must have all come down in the storms a few weeks back
