That wasn't a bad day.
My wife and I rode from Highett into town via New St and Nepean Hwy, up to Princes Park. Did the ride fairly smoothly but at a nice steady pace and then rode back home to Highett. Just short of 90klm in total, and beat the rain home by about 5 minutes.
Fun and a little eye-opening to ride through the CBD at 0600 on a Sunday. Small crowds down the bottom end of Elizabeth St with booze-breath fit to knock over a dog....
Didn't encounter one incident with idiot drivers all morning though, which was nice.
Always "interesting" to ride in those mass participation events. Can't help noticing the number of riders on decent road bikes, wearing proper cycling kit, that seem to love ripping past everybody on their left - often at high speed, and pretty close too considering the number of novice riders out. Do they drive cars like they cycle too?
Passed one silly old geezer right on top of the Westgate Bridge, dismounted and trying to take a photo with his mobile phone camera.
Couldn't help asking him in a pretty loud voice "what part of that friggin sign that says 'No Stopping on the bridge' did you not understand?"
He looked genuinely surprised.
