Note: For those who only want to do part of the ride, scroll down to Cop Outs further below. Then scroll back up for the full details again.
Start point cnr Alexander Avenue and Swan Street Bridge.
Destination Sorrento Ferry Terminal
Start time 6:00 am sharp! Let me know if you want to come, and please take note of the start point if you are coming by train, or car and need to arrange parking. That is, allow for ride time to the start point.
Daylight savings: Night of October 2 you may want to get to bed an hr earlier, and set your clock forward by an hr.
Transport to Start Point:
- i) Get up real early and cycle to venue.
- ii) Check your train timetable http://www.metrotrains.com.au/Timetables-Planning/Journey-Planner.html.
- iii) By car. Parking is available at Botty side of Alexandra Ave. Bring enough $$ in coins. I checked and there doesn't appear to be parking fees for Sundays, but Saturdays there is, so the other option is you can ride the train in on Saturday.
Route the ATB MSM route: http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=au&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=103416566830642597917.0004803ec3aaf8c10fbd6&z=10.
Possible stops: Dromana Info Centre (15 mins), Sorrento Pier (30 minutes), Frankston Beach (15 minutes), Alexander Park (termination).
Objective is to try and complete the return trip in under 12 hrs.
Having said that, my average speed is still about 20 km/hr. Definitely much slower up the hills!
Check the weather forecast, dress accordingly. Bring your own food and water, or bring money for food.
I will try to keep rests to no more than 15 minutes, except for lunch break (30 minutes at Sorrento). Maybe one stop at Dromana, and then Sorrento, and then Frankston on the way back. All up 1 hr loss for stops.
You can come along and turn back at Frankston if you want. Or even go all the way to Sorrento and on the way back hop on the train at Frankston (or any other station closer in to town). Or you can try and finish it
EDIT: Oct 3 (Sunday) trains don't run early enough, so maybe you should drive in. There appears to be no parking fees for Sundays on Alexandra Ave around Botanical Gardens for Sunday. Saturday Oct 9'th they charge parking fees AND I didn't see any all day parking spots, so probably best to take the train in. Trains do run earlier on Saturdays.
