A great weekend, damn tired now though and I really, really need to clean the bike.
Due to a torrential downpour, we (myself, Fraggle, Mrs H, Heather and richard_s) sort of missed the official 180km start and ended up leaving 10-15 minutes behind the main group. And we were probably delayed a little more by some "navigational" issues.
We got fairly wet on the way from Shep to Violet Town, it even fooled us into looking as if it was clearing a couple of times. (actually the rain jacket off - briefly!)
The weather started to close in again at Violet Town, where the more sane members of our group decided they didn't want to ride the hills in bucketing rain. I couldn't actually see any hills (in fact I couldn't really see anything apart from cloud, mist and rain!), so decided to press on in company with Mrs H and Don, a local Shep rider.
About 2km from Violet Town Mrs H and I had a brief discussion as to whether we'd made the right decision. But as we were already wet (and fortunately not at all cold
) we decided to keep going.
Even though we were soaked it ended up being a very enjoyable ride through the Strathbogies, my first time there on a bike. Would love to go back on a nice day. Great roads, no traffic and beautiful (when we could see it) scenery.
Made it to Euroa by 1, where the 3 of us made a much needed coffee and food stop at the Bakery. And got the "hurry up" from the SAG wagon driver who seemed to think we wouldn't make it back to Shepparton before dark!
Left Euroa about 1.30 and despite quite a reasonable headwind we made it back to Shep in under 2 hours to be greeted by our private cheer squad of Heather, Fraggle and Richard. (thanks guys).
It was a pretty full on day, I can't remember the last time I was that tired after a ride.
Great ride, great weekend, Thanks everyone.
