Did the 110km. Had a great day, well organised, food stops were great.
Checked the rain radar when I first got up and it looked like we were in for a wet one. But while we were waiting at the start the rain gave way to just cloud and a little sun. Never ridden up here before let alone climbed any hills. I soon found out that I had the wrong cassette on the rear 12-23. Wish I had 25 or 27 like everybody else. The downhill from Kinglake West to Flowerdale was sensational. Stopped at the first food stop, had some fruit cake and jelly lollies and set off again. Got to the Strath Creek climb started climbing, rear wheel was slipping in the wet every now and then. Got to the top and the worst was now over. Another food stop at Broadford, more fruit cake and lollies. Off to Wandong for more cake and lollies. Leaving Wandong there is the notorious rail crossing which was made a lot worse being wet. Two had come off their bikes as I approached, as I crossed at walking pass, the rider next to me came off. Not sure how many came off over the day but there must have been quite a few. From there it was an undulating ride back to Whittlesea.
Completed the ride in 3hrs 40min (ride time) 4hrs flat with food breaks.
