first time doing the 100k, this will be my toughest ride yet
Did a training ride last week, temperature was 33, 50k, 1500 metre ascent, hit the wall around 30k mark. Didn't have enough water, so there's a lesson in that, must keep hydrated as had a 30-40% performance loss, did recover so next lesson is that I must take first 20-30ks easy, so will cruise up the early climbs and admire the views.
Will be riding with my riding mate, so we plan to try and really enjoy the experience, aiming to ride at around 15kph average - should be doable.
Will be eating and drinking regularly on ride, Endura Optimizer, gels (later in ride), water and fruit cake, jelly beans, banana, nuts.
I'll be riding my newish Yeti 575, so far this bike has been outstanding particularly on climbs, tyre choice is Crossmarks, really if it's wet it will be like chocolate cake mix so course will be unrideable to a certain extent - on the other hand will just go with the flow and ride as much as possible.
Good luck everyone this will be a brutal event for the weekend warrior!
