Now the secret start location and time have been revealed, I'm trying to get my head around the logistics of the day.
11am for 12pm start is a bugger of a time to start anything. Can't these hipsters get up any earlier?!
My plan was to come down on the train. The train that gets me there on time is a loco-and-carriage rig, requiring reservations and with minimal bike space. Doable, but inconvenient.
Then there's mention in the agenda that presentations and whatever won't finish until dark o'clock, so bring lights. Hmm. That's a bit later than I was planning on being out, albeit without much of a plan. Need to be home for child-feeding and washing duties.
Does anybody have an idea how long the actual ride is likely to take? I'm under the impression that it's a 30-40km ride, so should be done in a lazy few hours. A bit of social intercourse and beverage consumption after the ride... still leaves a couple of hours before we lose the light... I would have thought.
Now there's a tentative plan that we might make a family day out of it. Not sure what the remainder of the family will do while I'm battling the pavé, but Management was thinking of it as a possibility as of this morning.
Are there any other misplaced partners and families looking to form a Roobaix Widows Club for the day?
