That road is a friggin disgrace. My understanding of the reason for its poor condition is that the selfish locals have petitioned/lobbied the council to ensure it stays that way. They don't want other drivers using 'their' road as a rat run.
If they would only allow a strip section, say 1-1.5m wide to be resurfaced, it would be a great commuting alternative to
a) the traffic and climb of the Burke Rd Nth cutting, or
b) the dusty loose gravel of the MYT between Manningham and Burke Rds
I once rode the boulevard section in the rain. Potholes (craters) filled with water, making it hard to judge depth etc. Hit one at medium pace - 2 pinch-flatted tyres. Guess who only had one spare.
