Northern Cycling race crits at arguably the best crit circuit in Melbourne, National Boulevard Campbellfield, on Sundays. You can come give it a try on April 7th. Details on the Northern Cycling website with either myself or Paul Logan the best people to let know you're coming for a trial.
Thanks Anth. I raced there a few weeks ago. Aside from a couple of car incidents it was good. I have my CA license so just need to how up and pay my money! Is there no racing over Easter? And where is the banyule cc calendar on their page!
But don't you need a Vets license (not CA) to race Sundays with the Vets?
Anyway, there's also crits on the Saturday (for CA license holders) if you're interested, same course around National boulevard. Possibly the last crit of the season too.
Back on topic. Once crit season finished up I'm going to have a go at getting to one of these rides. So very early
Sorry Bangers I should have clarified things.
Yes to race with Northern Cycling on Sundays you need a VVCC license which is available to males 35 and over. We have quite a few members who hold both a VVCC license and a CA license as it gives them the option to race on Saturday and/or Sunday, and crit racing is held throughout the year with Northern.
BanyuleCC is not a CA or VVCC affiliated cycling club, hence why we're not on the CA website as an affiliated club. We're a social cycling club with most of our members racing with Northern Cycling or a CA affiliated club and aim to provide training options more geared to those who race. I noted your comment about the tightness of the shop ride and suspected you raced. It's just a fact of large bunch rides with riders of varying ability and competing (i.e. strava) priorities. Not saying one's better or worse, they're just different.
You can speak to Frosty (rides a Bianchi is their spearmint green colour) about our rides as he's usually out with us about every second Thursday or come along and try one out yourself. Thursday's in particular is probably more suited to guys who race.
See you out on the road...cheers!
