Errr; Not quite yet. It has long been Rupert Murdoch's dream to find a way to make money from the internet. However, I predict that the attempt to get people to pay to read the Hun on the internet is doomed to failure.
I can understand that merchant bankers and stockmarket traders are happy to pay for the Financial Review but I can't imagine ordinary folks being willing to pay for a low class tabloid. The internet community has grown up on the idea that things on the internet are free and if this forum is any guide, the Hun is not held in high regard.
I haven't seen any usage data for The Australian since they started charging to view but I'm guessing they've had an enormous drop-off in readership. No doubt Rupert's ego & stubbornness will keep the pay wall up well past the time it is obviously a failure. However, once the advertisers wake up to the drop in readership for the pay per view model I think we'll see a reversion to free viewing again.
