Thanks for your sympathy & suggestions. The latest state of play is .....
I found that Windows 7 (which I’m using) now has a driver for the device (Canon FS100) which will do the camera-PC transfer and I also managed to find a Pixela basic transfer (Ver 1.0) which they let you download for free. However, the camera has a built-in mechanism which will not allow it to do any downloads/transfers unless it is connected to the power supply. When I used Windows to try and “find” the device it says ‘unable to find’ and a message comes up on the screen of the camera saying “connect to power supply” – even though the power cable is duly plugged in.
Previously, when I had the original (Canon) battery installed – it went flat. When I tried to charge it, the little charging light on the camera didn’t come on. I just thought that the battery must have been completely stuffed and so threw it away and got another. However, when I try and charge the new battery the charging light still doesn’t come on. These three experiences have let me conclude that the power adapter is faulty. The experts tell me that these power adapters are very vulnerable to spikes in the power supply and we certainly get a lot of those in our area (Yarra Ranges).
I looked around (on the internet) and all the local Melbourne places wanted $105 – $110 or more for the adapter and so I ordered one from Hong Kong for $8 (including postage) and will have it delivered to my door in a few days and then try again. Interestingly, when I had all the troubles with my old laptop recently, it turned out that the original basic cause of the troubles was a faulty power adapter. However, I have no regrets about upgrading to a new computer because the old one was really old & slow and the new one is very good indeed
The reason for all this kerfuffle is that last Sunday we took the dogs to the beach and I took a few videos of them which I wanted to share with the other folks who were at the beach with us. While I'm waiting for the new power adapter to arrive any further suggestions or comments would be valued
