I'm not posting as much as I did for a few reasons
- when I first joined I was quite a newbie and asked lots of questions. I also did a lot of plan-a-rides, and partook much more in MRR thread discussions. Now I know a lot of cycling friends and have my rides that I do all the time (baby/sleep permitting) and don't tend to get involved in a lot of the threads about training rides etc.
- I do most of my forum reading on my phone, and it's a pain to post, as I wrote in the other thread.
- I have a small child and am working full-time, when I get online it's night and I'm just too pooped to post
I'm a big part of another forum - initially a wedding forum but members have stayed on for years afterwards discussing everything and anything. It's really taken a HUGE dive in activity in the last 2 years, and we've come to the conclusion that Facebook is a huge part of this. Especially with that forum, the new members were mostly coming through wanting to have a community to discuss wedding preparations with without boring immediate family/friends. Then once they were on, a lot would stay, and have fights about gay marriage, or the economy, or discuss TV shows or whatever. A lot of these things, even down to the wedding preparations or the contents of a nappy
are now put onto Facebook, and people aren't joining that forum anymore. It had a huge membership, and through massive fights there was always a certain rate of attrition, but the new membership isn't replenishing the pool of members
I'm happy to put more effort into both these forums to keep them going; they have both provided me with so many friends, such good support, advice, knowledge etc. etc. and I'd love for this to be around for anyone else coming through.
Still a cyclist, albeit one who never rides any more....
