You won't like my mate's then.
More vertical than horizontal. Solar powered. Electrically operated door. Locks them up at night. Opens in the morning. Side opening for finding eggs. All but one of the chooks love it.
Hah! That's not fancy...
For my dad for christmas I had a sheet metal cutter, laser cut half a dozen different shapes and numbers. I then enamel painted them to look like different, miniature house number and house name plates. How else is a hen going to know which nesting box is hers?
(amazingly, miniature enamel house numbers just can't be bought anywhere. I should open a shop as people say*)
The chook pen now has 8 individually identified nesting boxes, a lovely little window with juliet balcony and a very elegant staircase to access the nesting boxes.
However, only two chooks in residence and they're bantams and seem either fearful, or incapable of leaving the ground, thus nest on the floor.
Their names: Henrietta and Isabel.
Chooks seem to suit the grandma names (Pearl, Prue, Gladys, Mabel, Millicent etc etc) Also you're less likely to find your chook and your newborn niece sharing a name.
* Until they find out what it cost to make said items!
