I've been having my cholesterol checked for a while now - cos mum had very high (~9) after her dad died (when I was 4, and Heather was 1), so I know I've got the family history for high cholesterol. Even when she massively changed her diet (skim milk, lost 1/2 stone = ~3kg), her cholesterol didn't change much.
I also had one of those Workplace Checks in August, when they were in my workplace. My total cholesterol reading was 6.5, but HDL "good" cholesterol was 2.1. Anyway, I got told to see my doctor (good timing, I had an appointment with the sports doctor the following week) ... so I was sent for a fasting cholesterol test the following day.
I wasn't told the actual numbers of the fasting cholesterol test (doctor rang me and talked to me over the phone) ... but basically, because the HDL cholesterol reading is high, I don't have to worry about my "high" total cholesterol. (Other than having another test in February, 6 months later.)
Hopefully now that I'm doing more riding/exercise, the cholesterol will be a more reasonable level ... cos after getting less strict with what I eat over time, I don't want to relapse (and another high cholesterol reading would make me more at risk of that.)
Put it in the small ring and spin!
