No more bike fare to pay - bikes carried for free!
However, some trains to Woodend are locos, with a guard's compartment that can carry several bikes (12-14 at a pinch), while the cool new V'locity trains, that I just rode back from Castlemaine on tonight, only carry three bikes per 2-car set. You load the bikes into a small area near the coupling of the 2-car set, where luggage is also kept at times. Our train had 4 cars so we got all 6 bikes on, but this small capacity presents problems if someone else is already on the train with bikes
When will V-line ever learn that bikes and trains are the ideal sustainable transport match?
There are two loco-hauled trains each day, one up to Swan Hill and one back. Try to get on these, they are listed in the timetables at www.victrip.com.au
as "1st & economy". V"locity trains are one class only.
