With the Commonwealth Games coming up, it's probably time we all put info up here about road closures in our area, so we can avoid them on our commuting route.
I work two days a week now, so I'm hoping to ride my bike both days. My dreaded right knee might have other ideas, because it has started giving me trouble again ... so I'm now hoping to ride one way, train the other.
I live in Hampton (Zone 2 grumble grumble), and I have a couple of cycling to work options (near Alfred hospital, Commercial Road).
* Beach Road bike path -> Fitzroy Street -> St Kilda Road & Commercial Road OR Punt Road (depending on time of day)
* Hampton St -> Nepean Hwy -> St Kilda Road -> Commercial Road
Here is a list of the events that involve public roads:
Thursday 16th March (Course Familiarisation)
Saturday 18th March (Race Day)
Involves: Beaconsfield Rde, Fitzroy St & The Esplande
Anyone know whether these roads will be open again on Friday 17th March between these two dates?
* Cycling Road Race
Saturday 25th March (Course Familiarisation)
Sunday 26th March (Race Day)
Involves: Birdwood Av, Anderson St, Punt Road Hill and Royal Botanical Gardens general area
* Cycling Time Trial
Monday 20th March (Course Familiarisation)
Tuesday 21st March (Race Day)
Involves: BEACH ROAD
* Race Walk
Monday 20th March - 20 km
Friday 24th March - 50 km
Sunday 19th March
Location: CBD & St Kilda Road
It looks like I'll have to resort to the dreaded Nepean Hwy (rather than preferred Beach Road bike path) for those two weeks.
Does anyone know - will Nepean Hwy from Hampton Street to St Kilda Junction be open to traffic as per normal during the Commonwealth Games?
As for public transport ... I hate to think what the Sandy line will be like, given there are often train cancellations without any special events on!!
