We have been around the block a couple of times in this topic.
Looking around the forums, their does seem to be a need for a couple of good routes to be established or enhanced for travellers going North/South in the Eastern Suburbs.
Focusing on Blackburn Rd for the time being.
The Blackburn Rail and Round-a-bout will be difficult to sort out with out some careful bike lane marking. I got pinched into the kerb again only last night. The option of Springfield Rd, Williams Rd, Station St, and then some better routing back onto Blackburn Rd may hold the solution.
Surrey Rd could have the bike lanes extended and better defined in sections where they run out. The road way is too narrow for two defined general lanes but would work well with a General and Bike Lane defined.
The curbing through the Syndal Shopping Centre when South Bound could be fixed so it removes the pinch points. Just South of High St Rd.
North bound from Wellington Rd through to Waverly Rd could be improved with a Bike Path or Shared foot-way established along the Eastern side of Blackburn Rd along the Monash Uni Fence and then Bike crossing along the Service Rd North of Ferntree Gully Rd.
Again Shared Bike/Foot-way could be established to take Bike traffic north across the Monash turn lanes and across the bridge over the Monash Freeway. Bike Crossing controls at the traffic lights would ease the bikes back into the traffic flows if it was found valuable
We do need to encourage Vicroads and the Local Goverments to look at making this North/South route work better.
