My Thorn Nomad looks like this at the front forks
But that is not so much an extension to the steerer, rather a deeper fork crown to give suspension-corrected geometry (the frame is designed to accept 80mm suspension forks but most people run rigid forks for touring). I have also fitted a small spacer under the fork to lower the front mudguard about 10mm.
And to get back OT, this is what the front mudguard and mudflap looks like. Standard SKS 55mm wide - seems to work well in rain.
